Aggressive gold sludge: special pump technology delivers long service life without the addition of water

Global demand for gold and silver remains as high as ever. Precious metals are not only sought after by investors, but are indispensable materials in modern industry. However, mining these resources places machines under extreme stress and can increase the high price of the raw material. The sludge of crushed, gold-bearing stone that is transported for chemical extraction, for example, is extremely abrasive and can destroy pumping systems within a few days. Adding water does make it possible to convey the product, but also increases the effort required in the gold concentration process. More

Special pump for emulsion explosives

Transalpine rail and road tunnels, dams for hydro-electric and storage power plants – the number of major construction sites which need significant explosive work has increased considerably over recent years. The requirements for explosives have been changing. Higher performance and increased safety are the overriding objectives which are demonstrated above all in the greater use of emulsion explosives. In Switzerland alone – traditionally a country with a great deal of tunnel construction – the ratio changed between 1998 and 2005 from 100 percent explosives in cartridge form to 95 percent pumped emulsions. The benefits are huge: the components, which are not dangerous individually, are not mixed until they are on site. The finished mix fully uses the whole borehole, but also goes into small openings. Certainly, high-performance, customised pumps which meet the special challenges of the emulsion matrix or of the explosive are the basis for this. More

Explosives

Where thickened slurries need to be back-filled a NEMO® hopper pump is used. High pressure and capacity capabilities, coupled with low wear rates ensure reliable cost effective operation.

Gland seal water

TORNADO® Rotary Lobe Pump

The TORNADO® rotary lobe pump is a positive displacement pump. The pumping action is generated by the contra-rotation of two rotors within the pump chamber which are synchronised externally. The media enters the pump chamber through the inlet port and is carried around the chamber by the rotors to the outlet port where it is discharged.
